Culture
Each fall we have a “theme” culture event which changes every year.
Here’s a quick recap:
In 2009 we had “My Big Fat Korean Wedding” which was a light-hearted comedy about a poor boy who found out he had been pre-arranged to marry the spoiled daughter of a very wealthy family. It gave the audience a chance to experience a live traditional Korean wedding, a rare sight these days. Student musical and dance performances celebrated the end of the wedding, and traditional Korean wedding food was served as well!

“SeoulFood” took place in 2008, where we re-created the busy streets of Seoul indoors for a dinner and show. The audience sat in “Pojang-machas” or Korean style street vendors, and ate by lantern-light. The show included a comedic skit which emphasized the importance of Chuseok, the Korean Thanksgiving, as well as musical and dance performances by various students from our Rutgers community. There was also a highlight performance by Korean-American rapper, Johnnyphlo!
Everyone loves food. Thats why “KSA/KPL Food Showcase” was conceived in 2007. In collaboration with the sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda, KSA put together an international buffet with mouth-watering foods from around Asia. People could try authentic Filipino lechon alongside Japanese sushi, and even some Korean bulgogi in the mix. Everyone’s plates were as packed as the room – the line extended through the entire student center! The dumpling eating contest was a very entertaining sight! There were also multicultural performances and games throughout the night as well!

You can only imagine what amazing event we have planned for this fall! Updates to come soon!
